Llechryd

At Llechryd a long bridge spans the river, which is wide by this point in its course. In the late 18 th century the village had a metal works – first producing iron and then later tin – that employed 300 men at the peak of its production. Only a few ruins remain of this industry on the banks of the Teifi here.

A few hundred metres downstream from the bridge stands a large country house – now Castell Malgwyn Hotel – with its estate farm, cutting a striking figure amongst the trees by the Teifi.

Walks:

1) The riverside walk to Cilgerran or Cardigan, which passes through the gorge, can be started here. Cilgerran is approx. 3km (2 miles) away. Not suitable for wheelchairs.

2) Small roads on the right bank will take you a few hundred metres to the gate of Coed Maidie B. Goddard Nature Reserve, which is maintained by the Wildlife Trust Wales. There is lay-by parking at the entrance to the reserve and an information board. The reserve is 15 hectares and has footpaths. Not suitable for wheelchairs.
